You know I was a little worried about this book. I’ve read two books by Nicci French before and one I enjoyed, the other not so much, so I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect with this. I need not have worried.
This was really really enjoyable. It was fast paced and exciting. It had good interesting characters. The bad guys were bad and the good guys were good. Sometimes it’s nice to read an honest to god thriller and I would class this as that. I see that it is the start of a series and I have to say I am excited to read more of these books. I loved the main character Frieda Klein and thought her life and job were so interesting. She definitely did not have any issues in carrying the story and I can see her becoming even more interesting I’m future instalments.
I did find the paragraphs from the little abducted boy hard to read. Even the thought of that happening to my little boy fills me with an overwhelming dread so strong it makes me want to never let him out of my sight ever again. Parents of missing children are people I feel the most sadness and empathy for out of all victims of crimes in this world. I don’t know how they function on a daily basis. I really don’t.
However because of this sadness and empathy you feel for the parents it does contribute to making you more engrossed in the story and you really long for the happy ending!
