The main problem I have with these books is the style of writing that the author uses. The characters are fine, the plotline itself is interesting enough but the author just sours it all by trying (unsuccessfully, I might add) to be up to date and add in ‘cool teen lingo’. Just stop Mrs and Miss Cast. Whichever one of you it is to blame just stop.
The constant references to major fantasy book series that have been made into TV series is embarrassing. Is the author just trying to get these other more successful authors on side or is she looking for her books to become a TV series as well? Whatever the reason it just makes me cringe. Especially when Zoey actually goes into detail about the Sookie Stackhouse books explaining them to another character. Sigh… Cringeworthy.
Also is there really any need for all this slang that they use? It’s like, totally, you know super awesome but sometimes it like, totally, sucks…. Whats wrong with just speaking proper english? We understand that they are teenagers you don’t have to shove it down our throats.
Other than that I honestly do enjoy these books. The storyline was not as interesting or as exciting as previous books though. I loved the storyline in the last book with the whole Rephaim and Stevie Rae saga so it was always going to be hard to top that. Still it wasn’t uninteresting so I did enjoy it. I liked that Kalona has started to show his softer side and I also really liked that Shaunee and Erin have become separate characters because they had really started to irritate me.
I will continue reading them but just hope that they ease off on cringeworthy factors.
